THE DARK KNIGHT TO RETURN IN 2011?
According to a Warner Bros. executive, we could be seeing the next Batman film hit screens as early as 2011, pitting it against Marvel’s Avengers movie, which is due out that summer. This is odd, as the next Batman film is yet to be written, let alone go into pre-production. Add to this WB’s recent U-turn on making any comic book movies at all, and the 2011 claim seems to be a bit too soon. Then again, if the script is nearing completion, the project could be fast tracked, shot this year, go through post and marketing in 2010 and indeed hit that release.
What concerns me is the possibility of WB rushing into a new Batman film to try and cash in on the success of the Dark Knight, before the story has had time to mature and be polished. As successful as the Dark Knight was, it was rather bloated affair and could have done with at least half an hour shaving off it’s running time.
It also concerns me that WB concentrating on another Batman film so soon after The Dark Knight will push their other comics properties even further into development hell, where they all currently lay. If you remember, WB were supposed to be halfway through filming Justice League: Mortal by now, and that never even got underway despite having a full cast and crew.
