COMICS COMICS COMICS: Reviews of the best of the recent releases

Hey all, time for another of our looks at what the loyal staff here at Starstore have been checking out of late. These two reviews come to us courtesy of our trusty sidekick Chris, a man with the face of a young Adam Sandler and a disturbing tendency to quote comic books instead of speaking like a real person. Bless his little cotton Superman pants.

: Better Days (2 of 3) Dark Horse

Oh dear God how I love serenity. There I said it. The second
instalment of this miniseries is just as phenomenal as the first, with all the subtle
nuances and hilarious in-jokes that made fans fall in love with the original Firefly
series in the first place. All that being said, I can’t help but feel this book
(like the series) will fall on deaf ears. To fully appreciate its humour, and
in some cases, even understand the storyline and characters, you have to
already have seen Firefly. I urge anyone who has not done so already, to search
out the DVD box set of Firefly and devour every minute… For to watch it is to
love it.

Spectacular (for the fans) 9/10

#28 DC Comics

Opening with somewhat of a grandiose statement from our Kryptonian
heroin ‘I am going to cure cancer’, this book doesn’t disappoint. While not
quite seeing her goal through to the end by the end of the issue, Supergirl
makes a decent start, by enlisting the help of the immortal Ressurection Man.
Over all, this is a pretty decent issue, with nice colouring and an intriguing storyline that will probably make me follow the arc for its full length.

Good, not quite super 6/10
