Deadpool: Will there be a Wolverine spin-off?

Now that everybody is falling in love with the new mutants they are seeing on screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, there is already call for spin-off movies. While We were kind of expecting Gambit to be the character everyone was swooning over, it looks like Ryan Reynolds’ performance as Deadpool has caught the imagination of many. The Deadpool character is an awesome asset to the Marvel universe, and there is a ton of potential for the character to have his own film, but where would it fit with the Marvel movie universe continuity if it did happen? Who knows.

Ryan Reynolds himself has expressed interest in returning as the character in another movie, and has also stated he’d love to see a Cable Vs Deadpool movie get made, but that a Cable solo film would have to come first. Cool idea, but I don’t think the general movie audience is quite ready for Cable just yet. I mean, what next, a Bishop movie? Stryfe? Executioner’s Song?

What is really cool is the fact that all of these comic book movies are being considered at all, and that movie studios have finally recognized the fact that there is a huge audience out there for them. The leak of Wolverine online doesn’t seem to have harmed the film much, thankfully. It will be interesting to see where the Marvel Comics movie universe goes from here.

Something we would be interested to hear about is whether or not any progress is being made on the Magneto Origins movie. Now that Gambit and Deadpool have arrived on the scene, is there still any call for a Magneto film? Especially as Ian McKellen has said he won’t be appearing in it, even in a cameo? I love the Marvel movies, but I hope they can continue this trend of being excellent. And hey, don’t bring up Daredevil. That film was great- especially the director’s cut. Elektra was a different matter…
