THOR: BY ODIN’S BEARD, IT HAS A DIRECTOR!
Well this is more like it. In an age where directors are thrown at projects in a less than sensible fashion, the forthcoming movie adaptation of Marvel’s THOR character has gone and got itself someone respectable. Not just respectable, fanboys and girls, we’re talking about Kenneth Brannagh. Yes. Kenneth Brannagh will be directing a big-screen comic book movie about a dude with wings on his helmet.This is absolutely fantastic news, as it means at long last we are going to get a Thor movie that treats the source material with respect while bringing viewers something truly epic visually and thematically. This isn’t going to be any run of the mill superhero flick. No. This may well be the best Marvel film since the first X-Men outing showed everyone that superheroes had some depth. Suddenly I’m about as exceited as it gets for this project, whereas before it would have struggled to illicit a ‘meh’. Now this has some serious potential. It needs a ridiculous scale. It needs a stellar cast, and what it really needs is a hell of a director. Thankfully that last matter has been cleared up in some style. The Dark Knight of Marvel movies? No. The Lord of the Rings.
