FREDDY KRUEGER IS…
The remake/reboot of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET has got its leading man. The iconic part of Freddy Krueger is to be played by… Billy Bob Thornton. Now, despite my initial reaction of WTF? I am going to reserve any bile for after I’ve seen the film when it finally gets its release. This could actually work- especially if the film is to feature a section prior to Freddy’s death, so Thornton can bring us a chilling Krueger in his pre-dream demon form. That would be excellent, and something the previous films never really explored to any great extent. You did see Freddy without the makeup on a few occasions, such as in Freddy’s Dead and Freddy Vs Jason (Ptooey), but they were only brief scenes. A full chunk of the film in which he is the living Springwood slasher would be genuinely interesting to watch. With this bit of vcasting news, my interest in this film has actually risen a hell of a lot. I’m stoked to see who else turns up in the cast now. It does seem that the project is being taken seriously by the makers and they aremn;t just throwing any old thing out there. Here’s hoping they get a superb nancy for it now. Freddy needs a good foil, and Nancy needs to be perfect for it to work.
