Green Lantern: Ryan Reynolds has been cast!

Ryan Reynolds, aka Deadpool in the recent X-men Origins: Wolverine mess/movie, has been officially announced as the man behind the eye-mask and shiny ring in the forthcoming Green Lantern movie! This ends a long period of speculation that even had Justin ‘Oh God No Please’ Timberlake in line to don the green tights and magic ring. So what are the fans saying so far? Feedback over this casting has thus far been really positive. Fans loved Reynolds as the underused Deadpool in that Wolverine movie, and the news that he has landed the lead in such a large scale production means that finally he is getting some of the recognition that he deserves. Here’s hoping the rest of the cast, and indeed the Green Lantern movie, are this cool. Comic book movies are now firmly entrenched in the cinematic landscape, and as long as quality films can get made, the genre can easily overcome the odd blip of sub-par material (Wolverine, Superman Returns, Spider-man 3). It is marvellous that such care is being taken over the casting of the next generation of superhero films. With this, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man 2 and 3 and all of the others, the future of the comic book adaptation is looking pretty damn sweet.
