HELLRAISER: REMAKE GETS NEW DIRECTOR

hellraiser18inchL 01 HELLRAISER: REMAKE GETS NEW DIRECTORIt has been reported at Bloody Disgusting that the forthcoming remake of Clive Barker’s HELLRAISER is to get a new helmsman. Dimension will no longer be using Marcus Dustan and Patrick Melton’s previously announced treatment and that a new writer/director is being sought. Word is that the man being touted for the job is ‘Martyrs’ director Pascal Laugier. That would be awesome. The long-delayed remake was at one point to be released this coming January, but now there’s no idea when the film will even go into production.

I’m still wholeheartedly against this remake, and indeed the remakes of other horror masterpieces like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th. I mourn for the age where new ideas could get made into fresh new films.

What I would have ideally have done with the Hellraiser franchise is put together one final film which would tie up the whole series and lay it to rest. If I remember rightly, was working on a novel at one point that would tie up the whole mythos, but I may be wrong on that. Barker is involved with the remake in some capacity though, sp hopefully it will at least carry some of the same power of the original.
