JOHNNY DEPP TO PLAY MAD HATTER- CONFIRMED!
As we reported months ago, Johnny Depp will indeed be donning a rather mad hat in Tim Burton’s forthcoming adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. Ho Hum. I can see it now, Helena Bonham Carter will be announced next, along with Danny Elfman and a quirky visual style that will just be ker-azy. And stuff. Oh joy. Please, can Burton and Depp work with someone else for once please? Otherwise we’ll end up with DVD racks full of oddball retellings of classic works of fiction that serve little purpose other than to showcase some pretty effects. Hell, I’d have given it to Guilermo del Toro to direct, with Cilian Murphy as the Mad Hatter and hmm, someone new for Alice. New and different. Another Fairuza Balk. There’s so many other people these projects could go to, that it saddens me that we can pretty much guess what the film will be like before a frame has been shot. Dear Tim- can we have a new Nightmare Before Christmas please?
Speaking of Depp, he’s been confirmed to play Tonto in a big screen Lone Ranger movie from Disney. Now THAT sounds like it could be interesting. Next they’ll announce Helena Bonham Carter as the Lone Ranger and the world will hear just how loaud I can scream.
