QUANTUM OF SOLACE – JAMES BOND’S BEST ADVENTURE YET?
The brand new James Bond movie, Quantum of Solace, is out today, and despite the vitriol from many fans towards the rather lackluster theme tune, it looks as though this may well be the best James Bond adventure in years. Casino Royale, the first Bond film to feature Daniel Craig as the famous fictional spy, introduced a brand new level of grit and drama to the franchise that had been somewhat lacking in the last two entries in Pierce Brosnan’s stint as agent 007. The return to the more bare bones approach of the original few James Bond films has had a great effect on the franchise, and despite audiences’ initial reservations with having a blonde Bond, the first new film was hailed as a triumph and set the box office alight upon release. It also saw an upturn in James Bond merchandise and James Bond DVD sales.
Now here comes Quantum of Solace, again starring Daniel Craig, following on just an hour from the end of Casino Royale. The film sees James Bond on the trail of an MI6 traitor, and takes us again into the development of Bond’s characteristics (as Casino Royale was a reboot of the franchise). He’s still too headstrong and gung-ho in this film, but slivers of what Bond will become are becoming evident.
The cast alongside Daniel Craig as James Bond, includes Olga Kurylenko as Camille, Mathieu Amalric as Dominic Greene, Judi Dench as M, Giancarlo Giannini as Mathis and Gemma Arterton as Strawberry Fields. The trailers are looking fantastic, and it does seem that the James Bond franchise is entering a new golden age with Quantum of Solace. Rumours and speculation on Bond 23 are already circulating, but for now we’re looking forward to Quantum of Solace itself, even with its clunky title that nobody really gets.
