Wolverine- Excitement mounting for the X-men Origins movie
Despite the leak of an unfinished print of the movie causing a ton of controversy, the buzz surrounding the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie is building to fever pitch now. While some fans are taking issue with the liberal screwing up of X-men continuity (Gambit? Emma Frost? CYCLOPS? Huh?), which is understandable given the stature of the characters involved, the film looks like it is going to be a ton of fun.
I’m a huge X-Men fan, and have been since the early 1990s. I know the X-Men movies have taken some serious liberties with characters, back-story and plots, but they have largely been fantastic. The first two X-Men films were magnificent in pretty much every way, and while the third was a let-down, the idea of it was at least true to the characters that comics fans had been enjoying for decades.
Here with this Wolverine movie though, we are faced with a film that doesn’t follow the X-Men comics continuity at all, and it is open to debate whether or not it even fits with the earlier films. Fans are concerned that it is going to be a mess, and while we have waited so long to see Gambit and Deadpool on screen, we’re all hoping that it isn’t going to be a huge mistake on the part of Fox to take the franchise in this direction.
On the whole I think the film will turn out to be superior to X-men: The Last Stand, but not the others. I don’t think we have another Elektra movie on our hands. watch it with an open mind, and make sure you watch it in a cinema, instead of downloading an unfinished print that is missing a chunk of the scenes!
