ALL DC SUPERHERO MOVIES ON HOLD?
As heard on Slice of Sci-Fi and across the geek community online, Warner Brothers is to put most of, if not all of, its comic book movie projects on hold for the time being. While Marvel Studios continue to thrash out hit after hit (and with several films on the way during the next couple of years), DC are being left in the dust somewhat.
While The Dark Knight smashed a bunch of records at the box office and on DVD, it is still Marvel that wins in the long run, as their consistent stream of quality films is in the process of creating a coherent Marvel movie universe.
With The Dark Knight being so successful, Warners execs took a look at the range of comic book properties they have at their disposal and decided that they would make everything dark to tie in with the feel of The Dark Knight. The resultant furore over the changes this would mean to Superman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Justice League and everything else on their slate appears to have resulted in the whole lot being put on ice for the time being.
WATCHMEN is a DC based movie, but it exists outside of DC continuity and is seen as a piece in its own right, which is just as well, or the wait to see it would have been even longer!
There needs to be some serious talks very soon at WB regarding their comic properties, otherwise, despite the huge success of the two Christopher Nolan helmed Batman movies, they will miss out on the action completely.
