KEEPING THE FANBOY DREAM ALIVE

I went along to the local comic fair yesterday, which takes place in a university building hall every two months and features dealers from around the country peddling various wares. This month’s made me smile in particular- there was an actual crowd there.

Where events in recent months have been relegated to the canteen, this month’s was back in the big hall, along with more dealers and more customers. This is most heartening, and the dealers should be applauded fir their efforts in keeping this corner of fandom alive.

Comics and graphic novels, along with the collectibles that go along with them, are enjoying something of a resurgence in popularity thanks to movies such as The Dark Knight, Watchmen, Iron Man, and so on, and thus these events should be even better attended than they currently are.

Even in these dire times of financial difficulty, there is a ton of great stuff at these events at extremely reasonable prices. The same goes for comic shops. There’s something for of pretty much any corner of fandom, and it is important to the collector’s market that people keep on going and keep on looking for the things they want.

So keep on visiting independent retailers, keep on collecting your favourite titles, and keep on looking for that elusive missing issue or missing figure. That’s what people like us are here for, and we always have been. Love your fandom, and support it!
